Mr Patel trained at the Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in London, before completing his Master of Surgery at Imperial College. He also trained as a Surgeon at the Eastern Deanery, Cambridge.
He arrived in Darwin in 2007 after completing his ENT and Head and Neck training to undertake a fellowship in Aboriginal Ear disease.
Mr Patel is the Head of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery at RDH and the only Darwin resident ENT Surgeon in Private Practice.
He established a Head and Neck Cancer Surgery service for all Territorians shortly after he arrived and a Cochlear implant (Bionic Ear) program for the treatment of profoundly deaf people. His first Cochlear Implant Surgery in the NT was in 2013, to National acclaim.
He was a key figure in establishing the Hearing Health and Aboriginal Ear disease outreach program for Aboriginal Children with Ear disease and Hearing loss.
Mr Patel is a leading figure nationally in treating Ear disease and Head and Neck cancer in Aboriginal Australians and is frequently invited Nationally and Internationally to share his expertise in this area.
