A/Prof Ian Turner

Associate Professor Ian Turner is a well-experienced clinical gastroenterologist largely based in Campbelltown and Narellan with broad interests in endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, and liver disease management. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of New South Wales in 1982, graduating with honours. He undertook his medical training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 1982 till 988. Following this Dr Turner obtained his Fellowship at the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1988.

Assoc Prof Turner’s clinical interests include therapeutic GI endoscopy (ERCP, dilations, bleeding, EMR, capsule endoscopy, GI stents and polyps), inflammatory bowel disease management (large cohort of patients built up over 25 years), and in general gastroenterology, upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy. His clinical research interests are in clinical aspects of inflammatory bowel disease management, quality of life in IBD, and reducing cancer risk factors in colon cancer and polyps and in liver cancer. He has Conjoint Committee (CCRTGE) recognition in upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, and capsule endoscopy and is active clinically in all of these endoscopic fields.

Assoc Prof Turner’s teaching interests are general medical and gastroenterology training in Western Sydney University medical students and endoscopy and gastroenterology training in local gastroenterology registrars and in medical registrars in Suva, Fiji (ANZGITA).
