Dr Ivan Astori is a Queensland trained orthopaedic surgeon. He focusses on adult hip and knee surgery and paediatric orthopaedics.
He has a particular clinical interest in reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee in adults, particularly the use of osteotomies (bone redirection) to avoid the need for joint replacement. He also has an active practice in knee and hip replacement surgeries, utilising contemporary techniques such as robotics to achieve positive outcomes for his patients. Dr Astori is a Certified Surgeon Educator for the CORI Robotic Knee Platform.
Dr Astori has a strong clinical and research interest in the operative and non-operative treatment of athletes and their sporting injuries, particularly knee ligament reconstruction, including ACL, PCL and meniscal injuries. He has extensive experience dealing with these issues in adolescents, working closely with like-minded experienced physiotherapists.
He followed his formal orthopaedic training in Australia with an additional year of training in Toronto, Canada where he focussed in children’s orthopaedics. He treats all facets of children’s orthopaedics, with particular clinical interests in reconstructive surgery for hip dysplasia, Perthes’ disease, and slipped upper femoral epiphysis. He is experienced in limb lengthening for post-traumatic and congenital deformities using the techniques of Ilizarov.

Dr Astori has presented research and lectured as faculty at many national and international conferences and courses. He is a past Secretary and current President of the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society. He is a Key Opinion Leader for Orthofix International Pty Ltd Limb Reconstruction and for Smith and Nephew Pty Ltd Robotic Knee Surgery.
Dr Astori is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FOrthA), a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (APOS), the Australian Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society and the Australian Knee Society. He is an active member of these societies and regularly presents at their annual meetings. Dr Astori is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner with American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME).
