Mr James Stoney is an Orthopaedic Surgeon focusing on surgery of the hip and knee with 20 years’ experience in consultant practice.
James has experience in Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement and robot-assisted Knee Replacement.
James was awarded his medical degree by the University of Melbourne in 1992, and completed his internship at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
His Orthopaedic training was also in Melbourne, working across a range of hospitals in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
James completed his Orthopaedic surgery specialty training in 2001, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He then travelled overseas to gain further advanced training in Hip and Knee surgery at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol. He completed his time overseas as a Locum Consultant at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
James is currently the Director of Orthopaedics at St Vincent’s Public Hospital, where he administers a unit of 18 orthopaedic surgeons. He enjoys teaching orthopaedic surgical trainees.
James has been an Assistant Deputy Director of the AOA National Joint Replacement Registry for the last 7 years.
