Dr Jay Thakkar

Dr Jay Thakkar is a general and interventional adult cardiologist. He is a Visiting Medical Officer at Norwest Private Hospital and a Staff Specialist at Westmead Public Hospital.

He completed cardiology training at two busy tertiary referral hospitals - Westmead Public Hospital and Royal Darwin Hospital. Dr Thakkar was awarded his FRACP in 2012. Passionate about his work, he undertook an advanced Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the world renowned Vancouver General Hospital, Canada.

 

Expertise

  • Coronary angiography, balloon angioplasty and coronary stents.  
  • Rotational atherectomy (a procedure to drill calcium deposits in stiff blockages).
  • Coronary artery imaging using OCT (infrared light) and IVUS (ultrasound).
