Professor of Cardiology and Director of Echocardiography
Professor Jonathan Chan joined the Gold Coast Heart Centre in 2009 and is now Director and Senior Partner. After graduating from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours in 1998, he undertook cardiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane before pursuing a Cardiac Imaging fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Professor Chan has special interest and experience in co-managing patients in cardio-oncology using Strain Echocardiography.
Professor Chan has been awarded a PhD which focused on the application of myocardial strain imaging. Being the lead author of his research team who were the first to demonstrate a learning curve for strain imaging that is now adopted by American College of Cardiology training guidelines. Professor Chan has international reputation as an expert in the field of echocardiography having co-authored many publications and textbook chapters with the latest on “Strain and Myocardial Work” in the American Society of Echo ASE Textbook of Echocardiography.
Committed to maintain high standard of clinical practice, Professor Chan is frequently invited to teach as Faculty in many international conferences over the past 10 years including Echo Australia, Echo Hong Kong, Echo Port Douglas, Asian Society of Cardiac Imaging and Cardiac Society of Australia CSANZ. Currently, he has the honour to serve on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE).
