Dr Rice was born in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. He attended Pembroke School in Adelaide and pursued his passion for medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1988.
Dr Rice completed his surgical training in both Australia and the United Kingdom and was awarded Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1997. He undertook further advanced training in the United Kingdom in General and Vascular Surgery and spent a year as Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Vascular Surgery at Oxford University where he obtained Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons, England.
After working for 8 years as a Consultant General Surgeon in Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, focusing on Vascular, Breast and Skin Surgery, he returned to Australia in 2007 and established his first Australian surgical practice in Batemans Bay/Moruya on the South Coast of New South Wale.
Experience
Dr Rice has broad and extensive experience in a wide range of surgical conditions. He has a keen interest in laparoscopic and open treatment of hernia, laparoscopic treatment of gallbladder disease, general laparoscopy, and management of melanocytic and non-melanocytic cancers of the skin.
With the introduction of endovenous laser (EVLA) and radio frequency ablation (RFA), Dr Rice’s vascular interest progressed to an expertise in the non-surgical alternatives for the treatment of varicose veins. Working closely with vascular sonographers, Dr Rice provides outstanding diagnostic services and a complete range of operative and non-operative techniques for varicose vein treatment.
