Completing his medical degree with honours, Dr Butt was awarded the top academic result for the year at the University of Newcastle in 2004. His physician training was completed at the Royal Melbourne Hospital before undertaking advanced training in gastroenterology at the Austin, Northern and Box Hill Hospitals. He went on to complete two years of additional advanced endoscopy training with fellowships at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
Dr Butt has a broad range of general gastroenterological interests, as well as additional interventional expertise. He is proficient at treating multiple gastroenterological conditions including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), coeliac disease, reflux and abdominal pain. Josh’s approach is one of collaboration and respect. He strives to provide the highest quality, individualised care to his patients and develop lasting therapeutic relationships. He is interested in the patient experience, and has conducted research aiming to optimise this.
Josh lives in the inner north of Melbourne with his wife and daughters. He speaks Spanish as well as English.
