Dr Wright undertook medical training at University of QLD followed by residency in North QLD before moving to Victoria to complete physician training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
Dr Wright focused on the field of Aged Care before heading to the UK to undertake further fellowship training at the Royal Bristol Infirmary focusing on cognition, falls and designing an orthogeriatric model in the British health system. Dr Wright has been a specialist in her field for over 13 years.
Following her training, Dr Wright worked in Townsville expanding the services delivered to the ageing population both in hospital and in the community. During this time, the service was able to expand from one geriatrician to five specialists allowing for increased service delivery to the older population. The service extended from Townsville to the surrounding rural and remote areas including telehealth services prior to 2011.
Settling in Melbourne with her young family, Dr Wright has embraced private practice. In 2015, the majority of care to the older population was in the hospital system and designed as a reactive management plan.
Dr Wright was keen to deliver proactive care to the community in a relaxed outpatient environment. This model of care is growing and should be the focus to ensure we are ageing well. Her vision to provide a multidisciplinary team to the community is the first in private geriatric practice.
