Lorenzo Calabro is an orthopaedic surgeon with a particular interest in hip, knee surgery and general orthopaedic fracture management.
A Brisbane local, prior to his medical career he gained expertise in the non-surgical management of sports injuries and joint pain, working for 9 years as a physiotherapist.
Dr Calabro graduated from the University of Qld medical school in 2008 with first class honours. He worked as an intern and house officer at Princess Alexandra and QEII hospitals before being selected for advanced training in orthopaedic surgery in Sydney.
After finishing his orthopaedic training in 2017, Dr Calabro has undertaken additional advanced fellowship training in complex hip and knee replacement at the prestigious Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh and Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital. He has also completed an international clinical fellowship focussing on orthopaedic trauma surgery in Bristol, UK.
Dr Calabro’s practice is modern, evidence based and prioritises his patient’s specific goals and outcomes. He enjoys working collaboratively with his patients and other professionals to offer individually tailored advice, management and ongoing care. He endeavours to be accessible to patients and colleagues alike. He maintains a particular interest in orthopaedic research and technology.
He holds a masters degree in biomechanical engineering and has authored numerous scientific publications and conference presentations. His patients will frequently be offered the opportunity to participate in scientific research as part of their care.
