Dr Perez Cerdeira is a passionate and dedicated General and Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgeon with a global perspective on healthcare. Her journey in medicine began in Spain, where she graduated in Medicine and Surgery and completed specialized training in General and Digestive Surgery. She received a grant that allowed her to broaden her surgical oncology knowledge in Sweden, where she participated in complex peritoneal carcinomatosis surgery at the University Hospital of Uppsala. She moved to Australia to pursue further subspecialty training in upper GI and complex abdominal wall surgery. She obtained Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with exceptional performance in 2017. Seeking to master the art of minimally invasive surgery, she completed a Clinical Fellowship at the Yonsei University Cancer Centre in South Korea, immersing herself in the latest techniques in laparoscopy and robotic oesophago-gastric surgery.
With over a decade of experience under her belt, she brings a wealth of expertise in treating a wide array of conditions, including reflux, achalasia, oesophageal and gastric cancer, gallstones and complex abdominal wall hernias. She is also accredited for diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA), which allows her to confidently investigate patients with positive FOBT, abdominal pain or iron deficiency and performing endoscopic surveillance for conditions like Barrett's oesophagus and colonic polyps.
Dr Perez Cerdeira focuses on providing high-quality personalised care to her patients. Despite her extensive sub-specialised training in oesophago-gastric surgery, her heart lies in serving communities near and far. She keeps her general surgical skills sharp through rural surgery and collaborating with not-for-profit organizations overseas, striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
She holds a public appointment at the John Hunter and Belmont hospitals.
