Dr Michael Coffey is paediatric gastroenterologist from Sydney. He studied medicine at UNSW and works in the Syndey Children’s Hospital Randwick. Has completed a PhD in The gut milieu in cystic fibrosis.
He is a paediatric gastroenterologist with expertise in managing children with gastrointestinal diseases. He completed his medical training at UNSW Sydney, graduating with a Distinction. He has worked at Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) since 2016 and completed his Fellowship in Paediatric Gastroenterology at both SCH and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He performs paediatric endoscopy, intestinal ultrasound and motility testing.
RESEARCH:
Dr Coffey was awarded his PhD in 2020 for his contributions to research on the gut microbiome and probiotics in cystic fibrosis. He has received over $2 million in research funding and authored over 70 publications, including chapters in internationally renowned textbooks. He has also received numerous national and international awards for his research and medical education innovations. Research topics including (but not limited to): Paediatric Pancreatitis, Cystic fibrosis, probiotics, paediatric gastrointestinal conditions, intestinal microbiota and intestinal inflammation in children.
