Dr Michael Ng

Dr Michael Ng is a general surgeon with particular clinical interests in Endocrine (Thyroid and Parathyroid) surgery and Thoracic surgery.

Dr Michael Ng is an Australian trained general surgeon offering a vast range of minimally invasive surgical techniques. He was born in Leeds, UK and grew up in Malaysia before moving to Victoria, Australia as a teenager. After completing school at Melbourne High School, Michael proceeded to complete his medical degree at the University of Melbourne. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012 by completing his postgraduate surgical training via the Austin Hospital, Western Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospitals.

Michael Ng was immediately recruited directly into consultant practice and has been a consultant general surgeon in Ballarat and its surrounds since 2012. Michael is particularly passionate about servicing the regional areas, aiming to provide meticulous and superior surgical outcomes for his patients. He works collaboratively with teams of endocrinologists, oncologists and other medical practitioners to provide the best surgical outcomes for all patients, particularly complex patients. The highest quality surgery can only be achieved through collaboration with other health professionals and hospital staff who share the same vision of patient-centred care.

Michael is actively involved in the teaching and training of the new generations of surgeons and medical professionals and is a well published author of multiple research papers in national and international journals. He enjoys being able to pass on valuable knowledge in order to help others maintain high quality surgical care for all patients.

Dr Ng’s surgical interest areas include Thyroid and Parathyroid disease. He employs minimally invasive techniques in both interest areas. Michael is also fully accredited and is certified by the CCRTGE to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
