Dr Michael Ottley is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in adult hip joint disorders. His practice offers a comprehensive spectrum of alternatives for the management of people suffering from hip joint conditions, including hip joint arthroscopy, hip joint preservation surgery, hip resurfacing and hip replacement procedures (both primary and revision).
Dr Ottley obtained his medical degree from the University of Bristol (United Kingdom) in 2000, graduating with Honours. During his time in Bristol he also obtained an intercalated degree in Pathology, again awarded with Honours. Following internship, Dr Ottley relocated to Queensland and began working and training in surgery in both regional and metropolitan centres throughout Queensland.
Working purely in Orthopaedics for over 15 years has allowed Dr Ottley to gain wide and in-depth experience in all areas of Orthopaedic surgery including the management of complex trauma and elective orthopaedics. He obtained his Fellowship in Orthopaedic surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2010.
Dr Ottley has undertaken advanced training as Clinical Fellow to Professor Fares Haddad, an internationally recognised expert in hip and knee surgery at the University College Hospital London, England.
His work there included the treatment of complex hip and knee conditions.
Dr Ottley is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA).
Dr Ottley is also a Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedics with the University of Queensland and taught regularly for the Diploma of Orthopaedic Surgical Anatomy at Queensland University of Technology’s Medical Engineering Research Facility. Other work interests include teaching medical students, junior doctors and training future orthopaedic surgeons.
Outside of work he enjoys fitness training, cycling and spending time with his family.
