A/Prof Michael Wong

Cardiology, Electrophysiology

Dr Michael Wong is a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist interested in all aspects of Cardiology with a particular interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Device Implantation.

Michael is currently Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology & Devices at Western Health and is also a Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Dr Wong obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Melbourne and undertook clinical training at the Austin, Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospitals.

Expertise

He completed his Doctorate as a clinical PhD research fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology under the mentorship of Professor Jonathan Kalman and Dr Joseph Morton at Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne. His PhD research thesis reported novel findings on predictors, mechanisms and contemporary epicardial ablation techniques for lethal cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in various disease substrates including non-ischaemic/ischaemic cardiomyopathy and chronic kidney disease. He is a National Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow with the University of Melbourne and is responsible for the clinical supervision and training of medical students, junior medical doctors and trainee cardiologists.
