Dr Mohammad is an experienced clinical geneticist who has spent many years helping individuals and families across Sydney understand their genetic conditions and make the right choices for them.

What is a clinical geneticist?

A clinical geneticist is a doctor who has had specialist training in diagnosing and managing genetic conditions. Genetic conditions are health conditions that are caused by changes in a person’s genetic makeup.

Dr Mohammad has strong academic and research interests and is an active member of research committees at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, the Kid’s Neuroscience Centre at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Pre-Gen at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA), and Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Dr Mohammad has experience across a broad range of genetics subspecialities across all ages: prenatal (before birth), neonatal (just after birth), early childhood, and adults.

Dr Mohammad’s special interest is in Clinical Genetics with special interest in:
- Cardiac Genetics (Cardiomyopathies, genetic arrhythmias, familial hypercholesterolaemia, aortopathy and connective tissue disorders)
- Paediatric Genetics (intellectual disability, developmental delay, neurodevelopmental disorders, congenital anomalies, genetic syndromes)
- Cancer Genetics (breast, ovarian, bowel, prostate, kidney cancers and other genetic cancer predisposition syndromes)
- Preconception carrier screening

Other subspecialities:
- genetics eye, skin, renal, blood and immunological diseases

Dr Mohammad has published many articles in peer reviewed journals and enjoys keeping up to date with the ever-increasing expansion of genetics and genomics across many facets of medicine.

Dr Mohammad is a member of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

When he is not in the clinic or the lab, Mohammad enjoys spending time with his young family, doing triathlons, and volunteering as a life saver with Surf Life Saving NSW.
