Dr Yanez Peerbaccus is an accomplished specialist with a dual qualification in gastroenterology and hepatology, alongside his expertise in internal medicine. Dr Peerbaccus brings with him two decades of medical experience, highlighting his dedication and proficiency in his fields.
Dr Peerbaccus embarked on his medical journey at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, graduating in 2005. His quest for advanced training led him to New Zealand, where, after completing his fellowship training in Auckland, he was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2018.
Dr Peerbaccus has further honed his skills by participating in esteemed training programs worldwide, including the Bariatric Endoscopy Masterclass in Strasbourg, France, the Hopkins International Therapeutic Endoscopy Course at Johns Hopkins University, USA, and endoscopy ultrasound training in Montreal, Canada.
Since relocating to Brisbane in 2020, Dr Peerbaccus consults privately within the Brisbane area where he offers comprehensive services. His expertise spans a wide array of specialties within gastroenterology and hepatology, including but not limited to, general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, liver diseases, and motility disorders. He also performs endoscopically placed gastric balloon for weight loss, including its patient care package.
Dr Peerbaccus is not only recognised for his clinical skills but also for his compassionate care and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient service. He is proficient in both English and French, allowing him to communicate effectively with a diverse patient demographic.
His dedication to the field shines brightly through his active participation in gastroenterology conferences, where he shares his extensive research and valuable insights. His research interests span a wide range of topics including discomfort management during colonoscopy, achalasia utilising high resolution manometry, reviewing indications for capsule endoscopy, managing obscure bleeding post-capsule endoscopy, microscopic colitis, ERCP procedures during pregnancy, index gastroscopy within ethnic minorities in South Auckland New Zealand, and chronic cough and reflux disease. Notable achievements include winning the Physician Competition Quiz at Mid Central Health in 2012 and receiving recognition for the best paper presentation at the New Zealand Capsule Endoscopy Symposium in 2016.
