Dr Mohammed Khateeb completed his General Physician training across Pakistan, Kuwait, New Zealand and Australia and is an accredited Specialist General Physician and Specialist Geriatrician.
Dr Khateeb has acquired wide experience in diagnosis and treatment of general medical conditions and has a particular clinical interest in cognitive disorders, acute confusional states like delirium, challenging behaviours, Parkinson’s, falls and multiple co morbidities with their impact on quality of life. Dr Khateeb usually gets to see complex medical disorders when patients have had multispeciality input. He is also an advisor on maximising supports at home or decisions to move to residential care, in working with ACAT and Discharge Planning Services. There is a recent demand for his expertise in testing mental capacity towards making decisions in legal aspects like EPOA, making a will, fitness to drive, or health and lifestyle decisions. His opinion is sought on suitability of patients for cardiac interventions, oncology treatment and pre and post operative surgical care. One of his emerging concerns is the burden of “polypharmacy” with its adverse outcomes in the elderly Australian population.
He has served in the public system including positions as Director of Clinical Training at Royal Brisbane Hospital and as Senior Staff Specialist at GCUH and Robina Hospitals. He is now extending his services to Gold Coast Private Hospital with full spectrum of outpatient and inpatient care. He remains a Visiting Specialist at Pindara Hospital and John Flynn Hospital. He also visits nursing homes, by arrangement.
He loves to teach, is Clinical Lead for Aged Care and Rehab at Griffith University Medical School and is an examiner for specialists in Medicine for the Royal College of Physicians, Australia. He is involved in number of community activities and is an invited speaker for multiple community and carer groups.
