Dr Nicola Fitzgerald

Nicola completed her Bachelor of Medical Science, and then subsequently her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours at the University of Tasmania. She went on to complete her obstetrics and gynaecology training with Monash Health, Eastern Health and West Gippsland Hospital. She currently works at the Mercy Hospital for Women as an obstetrician and gynaecologist, and enjoys mentoring junior doctors and caring for women in the local area as part of her role.

As an obstetrician and gynaecologist at Empower Obstetrics & Gynaecology, she offers the services of both low and high risk obstetric care, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, colposcopy and general gynaecology as part of her practice. Nicola has a special interest in the management of heavy menstrual bleeding, and is happy to discuss minimally invasive and surgical options for treatment of this condition.

Nicola is also passionate about women’s health in the Pacific. She spent six months of her obstetrics and gynaecology training working in a large teaching hospital in Fiji, which has prepared her for pretty much anything! She regularly returns to Fiji to teach local doctors and medical students, as well as perform surgery. Nicola has recently started a not-for-profit organisation PICCSI that performs free cervical cancer screening and treatment for women in the Pacific.

She enjoys working in a practice that values compassion, teamwork and woman-centred care. Nicola is dedicated to delivering high quality and holistic healthcare to women and their families.

Nicola lives in the northern suburbs with her husband and two sons.
