Dr Paul Harvie is UK-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon holding dual accreditation with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. After completing and Undergraduate Engineering degree he pursued a medical career receiving a Medical Research Doctorate at the Botnar Research Centre, University of Oxford before graduating from the prestigious 6-year Oxford Orthopaedic Training Program. This was followed by three years of super-specialist training in Perth (Australia), Oxford & Bristol focusing on complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. 

Paul came to Hobart in 2014 and maintains a significant public commitment at the Royal Hobart Hospital combined with an academic appointment at the University of Tasmania. 

After a long absence Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty has been reintroduced into Tasmania and offers a superb evidence-based, bone conserving option for more athletic patients wanting to return to high levels of activity post surgery. Paul is currently the only surgeon in Tasmania performing MAKO Robot-Assisted Total Hip Replacement using a minimally invasive Direct Anterior Approach incorporating Spino-Pelvic Motion Analysis for optimal component positioning. Paul also performs MAKO Robot-Assisted Partial and Total Knee Replacement Surgery. He is also the only surgeon offering radiofrequency ablation of both the hip and knee pain and will soon introduce a similar technique for trochanteric bursitis. 

Paul works in a small team in order to optimise patient outcomes and make every patient's surgical journey as smooth as possible Paul works with a Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Danny McGlone and Consultant Perioperative Physician Dr Nadeeshani Fernando. Dr Fernando reviews all surgical patients on a daily basis providing medical expertise and guidance in a patient group who can be elderly with significant comorbidities.  

More recently Paul has relocated his Private Rooms to a state of the art suite within the Hobart CBD with ample nearby parking and easy ground floor patient access. Despite current economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures Paul is proud to offer Tasmania’s privately insured patients a group of  World-Class cutting edge technologies.
