Dr Paul Ng is a consultant psychiatrist with experience across a broad range of mental health disciplines. He is trilingual and is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.
Dr Paul Ng graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed his advanced training in psychiatry in Eastern Health and St Vincent’s Hospital of Melbourne. He has worked in both private and public sectors of mental health services with extensive experience in acute in-patient care, community crisis support, long term rehabilitation, long term psychotherapy and consultation-liaison psychiatric services to public and private hospitals.
Dr Ng adopts a holistic approach in patients’ care and is willing to collaborate with patients, their carers and other health care providers to develop an individualised management plan covering both pharmacological and psychological interventions.
Dr Ng is keen to provide long-term care to patients with complex needs. He has worked closely with the ethnic Chinese community in Melbourne assisting overseas students, workers and migrants with language or cultural barriers. He was appointed by the Chinese Cancer Society of Victoria to be one of their medical advisors and has spoken about mental health in various seminars.
Dr Ng was interviewed multiple times by the SBS Radio Cantonese program on specific mental health topics aiming at promoting awareness of mental illness in the community. He also spoke about mental health in older persons within the Mandarin Community, in a seminar organised jointly by the Monash City Council and the Australian Chinese Medical Association of Victoria.
Dr Ng is currently working closely with the Melbourne Clinic in developing a private mental health service tailored to the needs of Chinese speaking patients with Chinese speaking triage services, nursing staff and psychologists.
Dr Ng will see patients aged 16 or above and can offer in-patient and out-patient care at The Melbourne Clinic.
