A/Prof Choi is a Senior Staff Specialist at The Canberra Hospital and Associate Professor at the Australian National University College of Science and Medicine. He sees and treats all malignant and non-malignant haematological diseases but has a special interest in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and bleeding disorders including hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT).
He lectures and supervises medical students, and PhD students, as well as physician trainees. He is the Clinical Director of the National Platelet Research and Referral Centre, Canberra. He is the deputy theme leader on Platelet Disorders at the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), an editor of the international journal Platelets, and past co-chair of the Scientific Subcommittee on Platelet Immunology at ISTH.
He currently chairs the Clinical Trials Subcommittee of the Human Research and Ethics Committee ACT Health and is a faculty member/expert panellist at numerous national conferences and international conferences. He is a member of the National Blood Authority lmmunoglobulin Governance Specialist Working Group for Haematology.
Phil was the Bob Pitney Fellow in Haematology at St George Hospital, Sydney in 2010, and recipient of the RCPA Kanematsu/Novo Nordisk Award in 2014, after training in haematology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord General Repatriation Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
His PhD at UNSW focused on immune-mediated platelet disorders including ITP and heparin induced thrombocytopenia.
