Raj was born and raised in Adelaide and completed his schooling at Prince Alfred College. After graduating from medicine in Adelaide he commenced postgraduate training in General surgery, then advanced training in Urological surgery, spending the first year at the Royal Hobart Hospital prior to returning to Adelaide. There he completed his training, spending a year at each of the major teaching hospitals and gaining extensive experience in the management of adult urological conditions. Having completed his formal surgical training, he then undertook a further twelve month fellowship in Urological Oncology at the Sydney Prostate Cancer Centre. Here he gained expertise in both the surgical and non-surgical management of prostate cancer and other urological malignancies. This included the latest techniques in radical prostatectomy, Low Dose Rate (LDR) and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and Cryotherapy. Whilst in Sydney he maintained strong academic links as Lecturer in Surgery at the University of New South Wales. Raj is the surgical representative on the Prostate TAS working group at the Cancer Council of Tasmania and is actively involved in raising the awareness of men’s health issues.
