Dr Richard Bonwick is a Consultant Psychiatrist focussing on Old Age Psychiatry, with a particular clinical interest in treating ageing veterans suffering with PTSD and its co-morbidities.
Following receiving his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (FRANZCP) in 1995, Richard worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist to the Older Veterans’ Psychiatry Program at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, and continued in this role until 2013, when he was appointed Medical Director of The Melbourne Clinic. He is also the Program Director of the Old Age Psychiatry Unit and the TMS Service.
Dr Bonwick has served on various RANZCP committees, most recently the Finance Committee and currently the Victorian Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Committee. In 2018 he was appointed to the Practitioner Support Service of Phoenix Australia (National Centre for Posttraumatic mental health).
Dr Bonwick has spoken and written nationally and internationally on a variety of topics in old age psychiatry, and authored a chapter for a text, “Psychosis in the Elderly”. His work treating PTSD in elderly war veterans was featured in a documentary on ABC-TV Compass in 2006 (“Walking Wounded”).
