Mr Richard Pennington is an orthopaedic surgeon focussing on upper limb conditions from the shoulder to the hand as well as general orthopaedic conditions and trauma. Richard completed his medical degree from Imperial College School of Medicine in London. His orthopaedic training was completed on the prestigious Guy’s and St Thomas’ Orthopaedic Training Program in the UK. He gained the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010.
Richard and his family moved to Australia in 2012 where he completed two AOA accredited fellowships. The first in shoulder and elbow surgery at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, and the second in knee and sports reconstruction at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, at The Mater Hospital in Sydney.
His commitment and expertise in orthopaedic trauma was awarded with an AO Trauma Fellowship to the Rocky Mountain Trauma Centre in Denver, USA. He also undertook a trauma fellowship at Nepean Hospital in Sydney. He qualified with FRACS in 2016 and is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. Richard operates publicly at Eastern Health, both Box Hill and Maroondah Hospitals, and The Northern Hospital. He performs trauma and elective surgery and is also actively involved in training orthopaedic registrars and teaching medical students.
Richard strongly believes that all treatment, both operative and non-operative, should be focused on evidence based medicine. He works closely and collaboratively with allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes from initial consultation to full recovery.
