Dr Rick Steer is a specialist hip and knee surgeon. He has a clinical interest in robotic assisted hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as sports knee surgery. Dr Steer is motivated to get you the best possible result from your care and surgery. He regularly attends and presents at conferences/workshops in Australia and overseas, aiming to be at the leading edge of treatment. Dr Steer works closely with other surgeons, anaesthetists, specialists, physiotherapists and nursing staff to achieve the highest care for his patients.
Dr Steer then completed training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Queensland, becoming a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2020. During his final term of training, Dr Steer worked as the lower limb fellow at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Gold Coast Private Hospital; Specialising in hip and knee surgery, including robotic assisted knee surgery. He also took a special interest in pelvis and acetabulum trauma during this time, undertaking training at both the Gold Coast University Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Dr Steer then moved to Perth for a further fellowship in hip and knee surgery, working with the pioneers of robotic assisted hip and knee replacement in Australia. During this time, Dr Steer also held an honorary fellow position at Royal Perth Hospital performing pelvic and acetabulum trauma surgery.
Dr Steer has a keen interest in research, with a particular interest in robotic assisted knee replacement research. He has multiple publications on knee arthroplasty surgery including robotic assisted knee replacement and pelvic trauma. Dr Steer continues to be involved in and lead research within Gold Coast Health. He is actively involved in training junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students on the Gold Coast.
