Cardiology, Electrophysiology

Associate Professor Sandeep Prabhu (Sunny) is a cardiologist and interventional electrophysiologist specialising in the management of cardiac rhythm disorders. Sunny’s an expert in the treatment of rhythm disorders with catheter ablation, including atrial fibrillation, SVT and ventricular tachycardia ablation. He also implants and manages cardiac devices including pacemakers, defibrillators and implantable loop recorders.

Sunny is passionate about providing state of the art, contemporary, evidence-based treatments for the full spectrum of rhythm disorders.

He is dedicated to ensuring patients receive the optimal treatment for their rhythm disorders. He is also dedicated to advancing the field of electrophysiology through research, in particular clinical trials in atrial fibrillation and the role of catheter ablation. He has been nationally and internationally recognised for his research in the field of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. He has a particular interest in complex atrial fibrillation ablation.

Sunny focuses on:

  • A patient-centred approach, tailoring treatments to your
    specific symptoms and goals.

  • Engaging patients in their health care, particularly with the use of
    mobile technology.

  • A focus on patient education and communication.

  • Availing patients to ablation procedures (where appropriate)
and utilising cutting edge technology for cardiac procedures.

  • Integration of clinical practice and clinical research, availing
patients to involvement in clinical trials and the latest
    approaches to treatments.

Sunny was one of a handful of undergraduate students to simultaneously graduate from both medicine and law (with honours in both) from Monash University (2005). He completed his internship and junior medical training at the Alfred Hospital.

He trained in Cardiology at the Alfred, Royal Melbourne and Frankston Hospitals and was admitted to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2013.

He sub-specialised in electrophysiology and device implantation at the Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospitals, in conjunction with a clinical PhD, before completing an overseas fellowship at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London – Europe’s largest electrophysiology centre, focusing on catheter ablation.
