Dr Simon Kang is an Interventional and General Cardiologist, who became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2019.
He graduated from the University of Sydney in 2010 and went onto complete his cardiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. He undertook two years of fellowship in Perth at the Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital specialising in coronary intervention. He was awarded the prestigious Chien Foundation Scholarship and undertook a 12-month fellowship at the National Heart Centre of Singapore.
Dr Kang has trained extensively in complex coronary intervention, treating patients with complex bifurcation disease, left main coronary intervention, bypass graft disease and chronic total occlusion CTO using advanced interventional techniques such as rotational/orbital atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy and invasive coronary imaging such as Intravascular Ultrasound and Optical Coherence Tomography.
Dr Kang has special interest in complex, high-risk coronary intervention including CTO intervention as well as coronary physiology, diagnosis and management of both acute and stable coronary artery disease. He is also a Staff Specialist Cardiologist of Gold Coast University Hospital and an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland and is actively involved in teaching junior doctors and medical students.
