Professor Stephen Duffy is a general and interventional cardiologist, whose clinical interests include transcatheter treatment of structural heart disease, interventional cardiology (particularly percutaneous treatment of coronary artery disease) and management of acute coronary syndromes. Professor Duffy was one of the first to establish a transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) programme in the state of Victoria and has been treating patients with this technology for fourteen years.
Professor Duffy served as Head of Cardiology General Services at Alfred Health from 2005- 2018. He is a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ), with regular scientific contributions and invited presentations at their annual scientific meetings since 1996. He is an active Fellow of the RACP and a Member of the RCP, UK. He was the elected Victorian representative on the CSANZ Board (2015-2021), and is presently the Honorary Secretary of the CSANZ.
Professor Duffy was a foundation member and is on the Steering Committee of the Melbourne Interventional Group, a large collaborative research group of cardiologists focusing on percutaneous coronary revascularisation outcomes (>50,000 cases; over 80 journal publications).
He has also been on the Steering Committee, the Clinical Quality Committee, and the Data Access, Research & Publications Committee of the Victorian Cardiac Outcomes Registry (>95,000 cases).
He was Chairman of both the Alfred Hospital Research Review Committee (2003–2005) and the Health and Social Science Ethics Committee (2007–2009).
