Dr Steve Andrews is an Orthopaedic Upper Limb Surgeon. His practice encompasses surgery of the Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand including Microsurgery. Dr Andrews has been in private practice for over 15 years. He is an active member of the Brisbane Hand & Upper Limb Clinic located at the Brisbane Private Hospital in Spring Hill, Brisbane. He is a Master Certified Independent Medical Examiner (MCIME) with the American Board ofIndependent Medical Examiners (ABIME).
Dr Andrews is a Local Medical Graduate with a Medical Degree from the University of Queensland (MBBS). Dr Andrews undertook his Orthopaedic Training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Toowoomba Base Hospital, Gold Coast Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Mater Public Hospital and Queensland Children’s Hospital. He completed his Orthopaedic training in 2001 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2001. Dr Andrews is also a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA) and holds membership with the Australian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ASOS), the Queensland Shoulder Society (QSS), the Queensland Hand Surgery Society (QHSS), the Australian Hand Surgery Society (AHSS) and the Australian Medical Association (AMA). Dr Andrews is a Master Certified Independent Medical Examiner (MCIME) with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME). He is currently on the Workcover Queensland Panel.
Dr Andrews completed further and extensive post-fellowship training in Upper Limb Surgery. He completed further advanced training in hand, wrist, and microsurgery at The Sydney Eye and Hand Hospital and St Luke’s Hospital, Sydney. He also undertook a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and then returned to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and completed a third fellowship in Hand and Upper Limb Surgery.
Dr Andrews’ past appointments include Visiting Specialist and Director of Orthopaedics at Princess Alexandra Hospital and an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
Dr Andrews’ private clinical practice at the Brisbane Hand and Upper Limb Clinic encompasses arthroplasty and reconstruction of degenerative conditions and trauma, as well as Expert Medical Opinions and Medico-Legal Assessment for various sectors including private, workers compensation and other third-party insurers. Dr Andrews has an interest in research and enjoys participating in academic and research projects, with a particular interest in elbow surgery. Dr Andrews regularly presents at conferences and is an active member of the Brisbane Hand and Upper Limb Research Institute. Dr Andrews enjoys the opportunity of teaching medical students, junior doctors and colleagues and finds the contribution of giving back to his profession most rewarding.
Dr Andrews also volunteers for the RACESAFE organisation, Australia’s premier Motorsport Emergency Response Service. His capacity trackside as Chief Medical Officer for Australia’s largest Specialised Motorsport Medical and Safety Team is valued. RACESAFE personnel include Trauma Doctors, Specialised Surgeons, Paramedics, Physiotherapists, Nurses, and other dedicated volunteers. RACESAFE and specialised Motorsport Medical Team are all volunteers and share a common interest in motorsport and enjoy providing their time and professional skills in the interest of Motorsport safety.
