Dr Steven Frederiksen

Dr Frederiksen is an upper limb orthopaedic surgeon focussing on surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist including microvascular and peripheral nerve surgery.

Dr Frederiksen graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997 and undertook employment as a junior doctor at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before entering full time service in the Royal Australian Air Force in 2000. Within the RAAF, he worked in a number of roles, including humanitarian assistance and overseas deployments to areas such as the Solomon Islands, East Timor, Indonesia (Bali) and the Middle East.

Dr Frederiksen returned from military service and commenced training in orthopaedic surgery in 2005 in South East Queensland, with a particular focus towards surgery of the upper limb. He commenced employment at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital as Director of Orthopaedics in January 2009.

In July 2010, Dr Frederiksen travelled to Auckland for twelve months of focussed training in surgery of the hand, wrist and elbow, including microvascular and peripheral nerve surgery. This work was based in the Orthopaedic Hand Unit, embedded within the Plastic Surgical Department at Middlemore Hospital. Whilst in New Zealand, Dr Frederiksen visited other centres to further his knowledge and skill in upper limb surgery.

Dr Frederiksen maintains an ongoing focus on improving his practice. He regularly attends meetings and courses to improve his surgical skills and update his knowledge. He enjoys ongoing research and encourages his junior medical staff to assist him in research endeavours. Dr Frederiksen has current memberships with the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Australian Medical Association, Queensland Shoulder Society, Queensland Hand Surgery Society and is proud to be a corresponding member of the New Zealand Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr Frederiksen also maintains the position of senior lecturer with the University of Queensland.

Dr Frederiksens main consulting rooms are at Brisbane Private Hospital and he also consults at the Brisbane Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialists, Hawthorne and Bundaberg Occupational Therapy in Bundaberg.
