Dr Tharmalingam Mahendrarajah

Dr Mahendrarajah, commonly known as Dr Mahendra, is a senior Ophthalmic Surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in Ophthalmology. 

He is a comprehensive General Ophthalmologist who is an experienced eye surgeon in Cataract surgeries, Medical Retina (Age-related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy), Corneal disease and Glaucoma.

Dr Mahendrarajah graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1982 with an MBBS degree. He obtained his Diploma in Ophthalmology in 1994 and Masters in Surgery (Ophthalmology) in 1996.

He has served the Top End for over 21 years, which includes many years of outreach service, and has participated in several programs to improve rural and remote eye health services in association with the Fred Hollows Foundation. He is also the recipient of ‘Pride of Australia’ medal in 2008 and was a finalist in the ‘Australian of the Year’ awards, 2009.

Dr Mahendrarajah is the senior Ophthalmologist at NT Eye specialists in Tiwi and performs all his surgeries at the Darwin Private Hospital.
