Dr Thya Thiruchelvam

Dr Thiruchelvam is a Specialist Adult & Paediatric ENT Surgeon with a sub speciality expertise in sleep and complicated sinus surgery.

Dr Thya consults in the new Cambridge Building located at Newcastle Private Hospital. Dr Thya operates both on site at Newcastle Private Hospital, as well as at Hunter Valley Private in Shortland.

Dr Thya grew up in East Maitland and was Captain of Maitland Boys High before completing medicine at Sydney University. He later completed a Masters of Public Health also at Sydney University. A Royal Prince Alfred Student, he completed his internship at Westmead Hospital.

Dr Thya returned to the Newcastle area following the untimely death of his mother. A self sacrificing woman his mother’s disease was late to be diagnosed. His mother’s experiences has inspired Dr Thya to excellence in holistic patient care in his practice as a specialist surgeon.

He was given the rare opportunity of choosing between four Australian surgical specialities training programs. Dr Thya chose ENT Head and Neck as the speciality in which he could fully utilise his skill sets to offer excellent care to all within the community, being a specialist that deals with all age groups and a variety of conditions.

Dr Thiruchelvam’s father was a local GP in East Maitland for 40 years. Dr Thya is proud to continue servicing the Hunter area.
