Dr Usha Shri Kissoon is a Senior Specialist Psychiatrist with a particular interest in Perinatal Psychiatry and Women's Mental Health and works in her Private Practice at the Pine River Private Hospital where she has been working since 2011.
Prior to this she worked for six years as a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit Consultant and Perinatal Psychiatrist at the Prince Charles Hospital and The Ellen Barren Family Home, a parenting centre in Queensland.
She completed her initial medical degree in South Africa in 1988 and has had extensive Paediatric and Obstetrics /gynae experience and obtained her Diploma in Child Health in 1993. She obtained her psychiatric degree in South Africa in 1997. She ran an effective Private Practice in South Africa for six years prior to relocating to Australia in 2004. She became a fellow of the RANZCP in 2007.
She is also a lecturer and examiner for UQ medical school and for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and has been a co-investigator for pharmaceutical research trials at the Northwest Private Hospital site. She is a member of the Perinatal Infant Mental Health Advisory Group (PIMHAG) for QLD and was part of a Perinatal Interest Group (amalgamated services of Adult mental health, Future Families and Child Health) that drew up a program for the first pilot study of a Mother Baby Day Program, which was successfully conducted at EBFH in 2009.
In her current Private Practice, Dr Kissoon practises General Adult psychiatry in addition to Perinatal Psychiatry and has been managing and advocating for pregnant Refugee patients.
