Gold Coast Private Hospital welcomes urologist Dr Yang Sun, who consults on all aspects of adult urology. Dr Sun graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2002 and completed his surgical training throughout Queensland. After passing the Surgical Fellowship exam in 2012 he did his first of two years of post-fellowship training at the Gold Coast Hospital, practicing general urology with an emphasis on stone disease, prostate and bladder cancer.
Dr Sun moved to London in 2014 to complete further advanced training in urological oncology at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea. He gained high-volume experience in advanced renal cell carcinoma, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for germ cell tumours, and robotic prostatectomy and cystectomy. Dr Sun returned to practice as a consultant urological surgeon at Gold Coast University Hospital in February 2015 and has now commenced private practice at Gold Coast Private Hospital.
Dr Sun is involved in clinical research with the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Institute. He is a co-investigator at the Gold Coast University Hospital for national and world-wide clinical trials, in collaboration with the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland University of Technology. He is also involved in training junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students on the Gold Coast.
Dr Sun offers a full range of urological procedures including minimally invasive stone surgery, laparoscopy, robotic and open surgery. He has a particular area of interest in rapid assessment for haematuria, investigation and treatment of urinary symptoms, ‘prostate issues’ including PSA testing and prostate cancer counseling, renal cell carcinoma and germ cell tumours.
Dr Sun speaks both English and Mandarin is more than happy to be contacted by GP’s and other healthcare practitioners to discuss and admit patients at Gold Coast Private Hospital.
