Dr Ju Lee Oei

Paediatrics

Dr Ju Lee Oei is a neonatal paediatrician. Dr Oei received her medical degree and Doctor of Medicine (by research) at the University of New South Wales. She completed her paediatric training at the Sydney Children’s Hospital and her neonatal training at the Royal Hospital for Women, both in Randwick.

She is a senior neonatologist at the Royal Hospital for Women, a Visiting Medical Officer in addiction medicine at the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, a Conjoint Professor of Paediatrics at the University of New South Wales and a research affiliate at the University of Sydney’s NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre.

Dr Oei’s research and clinical expertise is in the resuscitation of sick newborn infants and in the care of mothers, babies and families affected by drugs of addiction and dependency, where she is the leading Australian researcher. She has published >175 scientific papers, 5 book chapters and with her students, presented >250 conference abstracts in national and international conferences. She is currently chief investigator of two multicentre trials for the use of oxygen in newborn babies and leads a large research group from >6 countries.

She is currently Editor in Chief of the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, the official paediatric journal of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Physicians (RACP). Prior to this, at the RACP, she was Chair of the Paediatric Research Committee, member of the Paediatric Research Council and member of the College Journal Committee.

She is also an editor on >5 leading paediatric and neonatal journals including Neonatology, Plos One, Frontiers, Early Human Development and Seminars in Fetal and Neonatal Medicine. She reviews for >70 journals, academic promotions and national and international grants including for the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council.

At the community level, she is vice-chair of the Ipokrates foundation, a German foundation whose mission is to deliver affordable education in newborn medicine around the world and she is Chair of the Perinatal Substance Group of the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand.
