Dr Rifat Chaudry

Dr Chaudry is a British, UK trained Specialist in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine (PRSM). Before moving to Sydney in 2015, she was appointed as a Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Consultant at the Royal London Hospital. In addition to her primary role, she was responsible for acute general paediatrics, managing admissions from the emergency department and consulting on outpatient referrals.

Her Doctorate (MD) was attained from Imperial College London, following 3 years of original research into “Cardiopulmonary function in children with Sickle Cell Disease”. She's presented her findings at international conferences, has scientific publications in high impact journals and was a recipient of The Michael Blacow Award in 2007 from The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health UK. Her formal sleep training started in London in 2009 when she was selected to join the National Grid Training program in PRSM. Her pathway to fellowship comprised over 7 years of training at tertiary and quaternary centres; Great Ormond Street Children’s’ Hospital (GOSH) and The Royal Brompton Hospital (The National Heart and Lung Institute) under the tutelage of the UK’s leading academic clinicians. 

She has over 20 years experience in tertiary and quaternary PRSM, having completed initial training at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow and then across London at the aforementioned leading children’s hospitals. She's currently appointed as a Staff Specialist in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle.

Dr Chaudry looks after children with a wide range of clinical issues and since becoming a parent herself, has developed a greater level of empathy and understanding of families with complex care needs. She adopts a holistic approach to her clinical management, and ensures the child’s individual needs are kept paramount whilst considering the provision of practical and sustainable medical care.

Special Interests: Childhood asthma, recurrent bronchiolitis, viral induced wheeze, chronic wet cough, noisy breathing, cystic fibrosis, congenital lung abnormalities, allergic rhinitis, sleep disordered breathing: obstructive sleep apnoea, behavioural insomnia of childhood and narcolepsy.
