Dr Vanessa Cairns

Vanessa is the director and principal physician of Lake Macquarie Paediatrics. Vanessa trained at the University of Sydney after obtaining a scholarship and being invited to participate in the ‘Talented student program’.  After completing her medical degree, Vanessa undertook all of her Paediatric specialist training locally in the Hunter New England Health district and went on to gain entrance to the Royal College of Physicians to become a Consultant General Paediatrician. Vanessa has always loved working with children and is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the children and families she cares for.

Beyond her clinic-based work, Vanessa has experience in neonatal care and continues to provide emergency on-call services to the Newcastle Private Hospital where she attends deliveries and looks after sick newborns. Vanessa enjoys teaching and is committed to training others – medical students, junior doctors and General Practitioners. She also continues to participate in University teaching.

Vanessa is a mum to two young boys so knows all too well how challenging raising children is. She enjoys playing soccer, being active outdoors and will often be seen jogging after her boys on their bikes as they cycle along The Esplanade.
